Lutheran - Orthodox Dialogue files (1965-1970) contain minutes and agenda, correspondence, memoranda, reports, participant lists, and dialogue papers and presentations regarding dialogue initiation, planning, and meeting arrangements; discussion of papers and presentations, and problems in continuing conversations. Files are those of Paul C. Empie in his capacity as National Lutheran Council (NLC) Executive Director (1948- 1966) and U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (USANC) General Secretary (1967-1972, 1974-1975). Lutheran - Orthodox Dialogues were initiated in the 1960s. In 1965, representatives of the NLC, serving as USANC, and the Standing Conference of Orthodox Bishops of the Americas met to discuss the possibility of commencing theological discussion between the two groups.
